4am Wake-Up Call

She's so much better!

After about two weeks of beta blockers, and some "ups and downs" with her breathing, Brooklyn is returning to normal life. Her heart has slowed down, and her energy has definitely picked up. We are so grateful to God for the prayers of so many, and for the goodness of our God, who heard those prayers.

In the words of Paul,

We are less than the least of all the Lord's people ,yet His grace was given to us…
(taken from Ephesians 3:8)

Many of you have written letters of encouragement and prayer. Many of you have called to pray with us on the phone. What would we do without you? You are a blessing to us!

Our African brothers and sisters have been praying…those from Liberia who are so poor they can barely feed their families. They have no electricity, no "comforts" that we take for granted. But they have praying rights! God counts them as completely worthy, and these African believers have boldly approached His eternal throne on our behalf! We are humbled, and so grateful!

I cried yesterday as another letter arrived, after we had told our African friends the news of Brooklyn's improving health (and I quote):

Dear Pastor Ken,

I am little bit impress about your daughter doing much more better.
I am going to forward two major prayer requests to my prayer partners, and they are:
to pray for Jonah and the issue of you getting job.
We will continue to remember the Lovelace family in prayers night and day…

The prayers of His saints! God hears them. Night and day.

On November 1 at 4am, I awoke with a start. It was dark and heavy in the room. I could hear the whispers in my head. I even recognized them!

You see, several years ago, when we were unemployed, the enemy began waking me at night. How do I know it was the enemy? I woke up to thoughts like this:

You know why it's taking so long for Ken to find a job? Because you're worthless! Both of you!

You're not going to be able to pay your bills. It's hopeless! You're going to lose your house! Then what will you do? No one is going to want to help you out with all those kids!

You just THINK God has a plan for you, but it isn't true. You are on your own.

How do I know these thoughts were from the enemy? Because the Father would never say those things.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1

The Father would never say to anyone: It's hopeless. You are worthless. You are on your own.

This goes against who He is. He loves you. Do you believe it? He has a plan for your life and your circumstances are never hopeless!

This wake-up call in the middle of the night was no different than before. It was brutal. Why was the enemy waking me at the beginning of November? Because Satan wasn't wasting any time. This month -- November -- is the last month we will have income. Ken's severance pay ends soon and he's not yet been able to find another job. What will we do? I don't know.

But God has a plan. The saints of God are praying (like many of you, and our brothers and sisters in Africa) and God has a plan.

In those early morning hours, just a few mornings ago, I thought about what Satan had done before, several years ago. He would not torment me again! Because you see, when this first happened, God showed me what to do. He taught me how to use a slingshot. He taught me how to fight.

Remember when Jesus was in the wilderness? Satan tormented Him and tried to break Him. How did Jesus respond? He fought back with the Word of God. I want to be like Jesus!

I also want to be like young David -- gathering my verses from the Living Water -- placing them in my sling and casting them at the enemy. After all, Satan may come at me with sword, spear, and javelin -- flinging fear and depression and feelings of hopelessness my way -- but I will come against him in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom he has defied! (taken from I Samuel 17:45)

So this time, when I got my 4am wake-up call, I reached for the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Here are the stones I gathered from the Living Water:

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.

Psalm 37:25

Then I addressed the enemy out loud, telling him of God's promises to me -- to all of His children. And I told him to leave me alone, in the name of Jesus! Satan didn't like it! He's powerless against the Word, you know. He runs at the name of Jesus! As suddenly as he came, he was gone.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil,
and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

Now I keep those stones (or index cards) by my bed…just in case Satan tries his foolishness again. I'm ready!

You too are a warrior, did you know? Satan knows which of your buttons to push. He would seek to steer you away from the Father and His love and His peace. He wants to destroy you! But you can fight.

What's bothering you? What do you worry about? Are you depressed, fearful? Hopeless?

Learn to fight! Ask other believers to pray for you. You pray too! Pick up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God! Find verses for ammunition -- verses which truly describe your situation, verses that are promises from a Living God. Know that you have power through Christ!

Then, fight! Resist the devil. Cast verses at Him in the name of Jesus! Satan cannot argue with Truth and the prayers of the saints weaken him, robbing him of evil power. He will flee!

Time to wake up!

David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin,
but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty,
the God of the armies of Israel,
whom you have defied.
This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands!
All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves;
for the battle is the Lord's…!
I Samuel 17

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the devil's schemes…
Ephesians 6

"Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise,
making the most of every opportunity,
because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:14-15
